How to download YouTube videos

Start with a link to an individual YouTube video or Short. SaveVid prepares an MP4 with video and audio. No registration or app installation is needed.

From link to saved file

  1. Copy the link. In the YouTube app, open the video, tap “Share”, then “Copy link”. In a browser, copy the address of the video page.
  2. Paste it into SaveVid. Open the download form and select “Find video”. When the title and thumbnail appear, check that it is the video you want.
  3. Choose the quality. SaveVid shows the resolutions available for that video. Select one, then choose “Download video”.
  4. Wait for the file to be ready. Select “Save file” if the download does not start automatically. Your browser will usually save it to the Downloads folder; the exact location depends on your device and settings.

Which quality should I choose?

480p or 720p is often enough for a small screen. For a larger screen, try 1080p. Higher resolutions usually mean larger files; the size also depends on the video’s length and content.

1440p and 2160p are only available when the original video supports them. SaveVid does not upscale videos. Some options need conversion, which is indicated below the quality buttons.

Troubleshooting

The link is not supported
Check that you copied a link to an individual video, not a channel or playlist. Supported links include youtube.com/watch, youtube.com/shorts and youtu.be.
The video is unavailable
The video may have been removed, made private or restricted by YouTube. SaveVid may also be temporarily unable to retrieve it. Try again later. If the error persists, contact support and include the error message.
The video is too long or the file is too large
Videos can currently be up to 60 minutes long, with finished files up to 1024 MB. If the file is too large, try a lower resolution. Choosing a lower quality does not change the duration limit.
Preparation is taking a while
Larger files and videos that need conversion take longer to prepare. The page shows the current stage. You can refresh it in the same browser: the task will be restored if your browser has kept the session data.
The download link has expired
Files are available for up to 6 hours. After that, find the video again and prepare a new file.
I cannot find the file on my phone
Check your browser’s downloads or open your file manager. Saving an MP4 does not always add it to your gallery automatically.

For details on file formats, temporary storage and supporting the project, see the About SaveVid page. Only save videos you own or have the creator’s permission to download.
